Your interpretation is the right interpretation. 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE ALTAR

1.     Bring an offering. For example:

·       a photograph or image.

·       a note, poem or quote to, or about, someone or something.

·       a collage

·       a piece of cloth from a special blanket or item of clothing.

·       a personal object, a trinket, a keepsake.

·       A stone from a special place.

·       Whatever you decide to bring!

 

2.     Secure your offering well so that it isn’t carried away by wind or

       squirrels.  (bring fasteners from home; duct tape, sticky putty, tacks etc.)

 

3.      Please be mindful of each other’s contributions.

 

4.     Enjoy the layering and collage as the altar evolves.


Please only make offerings that you are willing to let go of. *

*Because of the nature of the project, we will not be able to return or guarantee safekeeping of any items placed on the altar

Represent the metaphorical light you thirst for or simply drape yourself with fairy lights...

-Bring your lantern & LED candle to help guide us through the darkness! **

**Please no flame candles for safety reasons!!

***We plan to stroll at a calm pace for 45 minutes - 1 hour.  The pre-planned route allows those that need to modify the distance to do so easily.  The route and distance will be shortened if the weather is inclement.

*What is “interactive, promenade theater”?

A performance where the audience literally steps into the set and becomes an active member in the scene.  The audience is encouraged to hands-on explore & uncover their surroundings.  To be present & alive in the action and conversation.

Goldenrod Galls, Acorn Cups, Cigar Tree Seed Pods, Grapevine Tendrils, Sycamore Bark…

 

PICK. PLACE. REPEAT.  

Design an intuitive, simple &

individual creation  in the

round.Then sweep it all away.*

 

*After photographing, each creation will be swept into one communal pile to be used Sunday, June 5th in the set design for “I Sense A Presence”— an interactive, promenade theater experience!   

 

Saturday = interactive art. Sunday = interactive theater.  One tent. Two ways to play.

Somewhere Between Darkness & Light

First Friday Gallery Night

1013 W. State St, Ithaca

 

On Wednesday January 27th, Art Club invited the town to participate in shadow themed visual art and film stations at the Tompkins County Public Library with the purpose of gathering together to play and to create community art projects.  On Gallery Night, we will proudly display these art pieces that were all created by you, members of our community. 

We can't wait to see you again and celebrate your innovation and vision!

 

Gallery Night at the Just Be Cause Center brought to you in partnership with our amazing friends at the Ithaca Children's Garden ithacachildrensgarden.org   

Check out their Fire & Ice Festival coming Feb 6th from 3-6pm!!!

 

For all Participants--

ART-PICK-UP TIMES AND DATES:  

Your fantastic contributions will be available for you to take home

immediately after Gallery Night Friday Feb 5th at 8pm 

OR 

Monday Feb 8th from 5-7pm at the Tompkins County Public Library 

(We will set up in the library proper at a table closest to the BorgWarner room we can find.  We can't thank you enough!)

We will be making Portraits and Films while playing with shadows for your very own community art exhibition...

  • Shadow Self Portraits --hand traced silhouettes decorated with your own unique "headdress"
  • Life-size Shadow Puppet Theater --your bodies become human shadow puppets with costumes, masks and movement
  • Abstract Object Shadow Theater --boxes of knickknacks and curios to set up, manipulate and encourage shadow and light play
